The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
Section 1118 requires that both the district and the state ensure parents play an active role in their child’s education. The importance of parent involvement and the positive impact it has on student achievement is well documented. The Title 1 section of the law specifically requires parents to be active participants in the development of district policies related to parent involvement. Parents and the community must also receive timely notifications and specific documentation throughout the school year.
